A tax stands for Employment tax and means that the employer deducts preliminary tax and social security contributions before paying wages to employees.

The A-tax covers everyone who has any type of employment, regardless of whether it is, for example, full-time, part-time or hourly.

The amount of A-tax depends, for example, on which municipality you live in and whether you are a member of the Church of Sweden or not.
